Courtney began piano lessons at the age of five. When she was 11, she decided that she wanted to play the violin. After taking classical lessons and playing with the Singing Strings, she took lessons from Cynthia MacLeod, who introduced Courtney to the Celtic style of playing, which she found is where her love of music lies. At 15 years old, she put much work into recording her first album, which was nominated for three Music PEI Awards including New Artist of the Year, Roots/Traditional, and Instrumental.
Throughout Courtney's music career, she has represented PEI at the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Competition and represented Canada with the Singing Strings Orchestra in Italy. This summer will be Courtney's sixth season of hosting the New Dominion Ceilidhs and she is also working on her third album, a double CD to be titled "Swinging on a Note" which will include a vast array of traditional fiddle tunes, and new recordings by PEI's finest singers and musicians including Michael Pendergast, Meaghan Blanchard, Gordon Belsher, Kendall Docherty, Lester MacPherson, Dino Dunsford, Fiddlers Sons, Richard Wood, Jon Matthews, Todd MacLean, Eric McEwen, Hannah Rollwage, and Matthieu Hughes.
