Music PEI Week
Canadian Songwriter Challenge

Canadian Songwriter Challenge is a Music PEI initiative in its third year and part of the new annual Canadian Song Conference (CSC) taking place May 10–13, 2017. The CSC brings leading music industry professionals from across North America together to examine and discuss the art and the commerce of songwriting with workshops, panels and networking opportunities with a focus on creating multiple revenue streams.

The Canadian Songwriter Challenge is a project within the CSC that is supported by BellMedia and it will put artists from across Canada together with artists from PEI. These artists collaborate together for 2 days to co-write and record demos. On the third day they will have an opportunity to pitch their songs to a panel of delegates including music supervisors, publishers, labels and other industry professionals from Canada and the US. Participating artists will also have an opportunity to pitch their own catalogue of songs.

In addition the participating artists will also be offered performance opportunities at the Music PEI May Run Music Festival that runs from May 10–14. These performance opportunities will include a variety of showcases and concerts during the festival.

You can listen to the songs created during the project from 2016 in this Soundcloud playlist. Participants from PEI included KINLEY, Dylan Menzie, Dennis Ellsworth, and Tim Chaisson. Artists from across Canada included, Carleton Stone (NS), Brianna Gosse (NL), Kashka (ON).
