Four Music PEI Awards handed out at S.A.C. Songwriters Concert Catherine MacLellan wins 2 awards

January 20, 2012 | Metro Credit Union Music PEI Week 2012 continued Thursday night in Georgetown with the S.A.C. Songwriters Concert presented by The Eastern Graphic at the Kingís Playhouse.

Four Music PEI Awards were presented during a night that also featured rousing performances from featured songwriter David Francey, alongside the nominees for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year: Catherine MacLellan, John MacPhee of Paper Lions, Dennis Ellsworth, Fraser McCallum of Racoon Bandit, Liam Corcoran of The Express, and special guest, Ashley Condon.

Catherine MacLellan was prominently featured on the night as she took home two Music PEI trophies, one for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year and one for Roots Contemporary Recording of the Year. She is nominated for four additional awards, which will be revealed at the Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Ocean 100, this Saturday night at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Other awards recipients at Thursday nightís concert included Hunterís Ale House for Venue of the Year and Alan Dowling, recognized as the Industry Person of the Year. Dowling is a music educator at Holland College and the driving force behind the development of the Holland College School of Performing Arts program that launched last September.

Twelve more Music PEI Awards will be handed out at the 11th annual Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Ocean 100, this Saturday January 21st at 8pm. This grand finale to Metro Credit Union Music PEI Week 2012 will be hosted by Jonathan Torrens and will feature thirteen live performances including Lennie Gallant, Catherine MacLellan, Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold, Al Tuck, Johnny Oliver and many more.
