Showcase Boot Camp
Showcase Boot Camp: the Do‘s and Don‘ts of Showcases and Conferences.
Wednesday March 16, 2011
7:00pm – 8:30pm
This is free to all Music PEI Members. Email [email protected] if you are interested in attending.
We have brought together industry professionals from a variety of perspectives to present their opinions on the key ingredients for a successful showcase and conference. Showcases are generally very intense 20 minute sets that must immediately connect with a sometimes jaded audience of industry professionals. The window of opportunity is often very small but delivering in these tough circumstances can lead to break through booking, performance, and media opportunities. The Boot Camp panel will take place on the evening of March 16 and include four panelists:
Scott Long’s experience as executive director of Music Nova Scotia was preceded by years of touring in Ashley MacIsaac’s band. He represents both the artists and administrative side of the discussion, has performed in and developed countless showcase events.
Sue Urquhart is the executive director of the Atlantic Presenters Association whose annual showcase conference Contact East has become one of our region’s most important showcase and business development event. She has seen and heard feedback on literally hundreds of showcasing artists.
John MacPhee, lead singer of Paper Lions is an experienced showcase artist who has performed at countless showcases and had great success planning for and executing showcases.
Rob Oakie is the executive director of Music PEI and designer of Showcase PEI, Music PEI’s annual booking conference which has lead to significant work for PEI artists. He will serve as moderator for the panel.
