2021/22 Program
Music PEI launched the new Artist Mentorship Program in January 2021, providing a deep dive into artist development, career strategy and touring.
Program Design
Sounds Just Fine, a company in the UK operated by music industry pro Neil Pearson, has been contracted to deliver the Artist Mentorship Program. Neil has decades of experience in a variety of roles in the music industry, with a particular focus on artist and project development. He has worked with a number of international artists including Canadians Rose Cousins, The Small Glories, Tomato/Tomato, Dave Gunning, and more.
The program will accept 12 artists for one month each. Each mentorship will include three 1-hr sessions (video conferencing or phone), in addition to email communication.
There is no fee for this program. Artists will be selected by a jury in collaboration with Sounds Just Fine. Artists must be Exporting or Export Ready and a permanent resident of PEI.
Goals & Targets
Sounds Just Fine will set goals and targets with individual artists (and in consultation with Music PEI where deemed appropriate) relative to where they are in their career and the rhythm of their release schedules. They will use the sessions to identify and develop areas of need and importance, as required.
Although each artist will have different needs, areas to be covered could include but are not limited to:
- Audience development and growth, with a focus on the UK but including local, domestic, international, and online, as appropriate.
- Release strategies and making the most of a new record
Sustaining and building momentum between releases
Career strategy and planning for the short and long term
Building a team (working out when you need help, and where to go)
Building relationships and networking
Creative development and support
