Soul Filter is an Indie Alt Rock-Pop band from Prince Edward Island, Canada featuring Karen and Mike Penton. Formed in 2017, this husband and wife duo has been performing in popular cover bands throughout the Maritimes for the past 15 years. Mike, formerly a bassist for Kickstart and rhythm guitarist for Cameltoe, has 30 years of stage experience. Karen has been performing as a lead vocalist for the past 15 years.

Their first collaboration, the popular cover band Junkmale, packed dance halls and bars all over PEI with their classic party anthem songs, for 13 years. They also performed in Moncton and Riverview NB. In 2012, they were invited to perform on the Discovery Stage during ECMA week in Charlottetown, PEI.

In 2013 Karen & Mike formed Pretty Tragic with two new members. A Summerside favorite party band with a slightly heavier and edgier sound, the band continued to rock on, becoming an annual staple at the Squall at the Hall summer event. In 2015, heavily influenced by a love for 90ís era music, they formed a kick ass No Doubt and Alanis Morissette tribute show just for fun.

For past six years, Karen and Mike have been performing regularly as an acoustic duo, playing a blend of classic rock and pop songs. The gracious and humble duo always perform from the heart- no matter the size of the audience.

After years of developing their stage presence and performance style, Soul Filter, their latest undertaking, grew out of their mutual passion for songwriting and creating their own music. Currently recording their debut album, their new sound is influenced by The Cranberries, Sheryl Crow, Sass Jordan, Holly McNarland, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Alanis Morrisette; a reminiscent feel of the 90ís s soft rock-pop era.

Weaving between soft and powerful lead vocals, Karen delivers catchy lyrical melodies and playful acoustic rhythm guitar. Mike, doing double duty on this album, lays down smooth, funky-cool bass lines, and melodically sweet electric guitar riffs.

Soul Filter just released their debut single Armor; an empowering self-reflective rock-pop song about fear of love and vulnerability. The anticipated release date for their debut album, A Minor Conspiracy is the Fall of 2018. Plans are underway to perform with a full band on board. Please stay tuned for more from Soul Filter!
