Nine Music PEI Awards handed out at Music Mosaic ceremony | Singer-songwriter Ashley Condon wins 2 Awards

January 19, 2012 | Metro Credit Union Music PEI Week 2012 continued with pomp and ceremony Wednesday night in Summerside with Music Mosaic presented by PEI Cooperative Council and in partnership with La Fédération Culturelle de l'IPÉ. Nine Music PEI Awards were handed out at Harbourfront Theatre during a night that also featured thrilling performances from Lennie Gallant, Ashley Condon & Caroline Bernard, and Rebels.

“We are very pleased with the turnout in Summerside for this terrific concert” says Music PEI Executive Director Rob Oakie. “Music Week has grown as a whole and its great to see the community getting behind this event.”

Singer-songwriter Ashley Condon came away with two awards, one for Best New Artist, and the Lynn Grishko Memorial Award, recognizing a female performer making great strides in their career.

Philippe LeBlanc was also honoured as Educator of the Year for his lifetime of commitment as a Music Teacher and cultivator of Island talent. LeBlanc recently retired from teaching after years of instructing at École-sur-mer in Summerside and École Évangéline in Abrams Village.

In the fan-voting category, Bell Aliant Weekend Warrior of the Year, new group Bad Habits took the top prize. Other winners on the night were the Festival of Small Halls for Event of the Year, Big Grey Sound Studio for Recording Studio/Technician, Kelley Mooney for Country Recording, Ten Strings and a Goat Skin for Roots Traditional Recording, and Death Valley Driver for Loud Recording of the Year.

Sixteen more awards will be handed out at ceremonies throughout the week. Four will be handed out tonight at the S.A.C. Songwriters Concert presented by The Eastern Graphic at the King’s Playhouse in Georgetown. Another twelve awards will be presented at the grand finale to Metro Credit Union Music PEI Week, the Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Ocean 100, this Saturday night at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
