Music PEI Rescinds 2 awards

November 19, 2020 | On November 17th, the Directors of Music PEI voted to rescind two awards given to Aaron Crane in response to his guilty plea of Sexual Interference. Mr. Crane received Educator of the Year in 2016 and Musician of the Year in 2013.

Music PEI stands with and supports victims of sexual abuse and harrasment. In rescinding these awards, the organization hopes to send an unequivocal message that what Mr. Crane did is unacceptable, and that such behavior will not be tolerated within our industry. We believe its important to take action and to send a message on behalf of our members to the music community of Prince Edward Island." - Catherine MacLellan, President of Music PEI Board of Directors.

On November 3rd, Music PEI held a Special Meeting in accordance with the Music PEI Bylaws, and amended section 4:06. The amendment allowed the Music PEI Board of Directors to rescind awards bestowed by the organisation.
4.06 The directors shall have the right to remove the name of any member from the Corporation registry, and to rescind any award granted by the Corporation to any member, for any reason, which to a majority of directors of the Corporation shall deem sufficient.
